UBS All Bar None Women's Network Celebrates Women's History Month

Women's History Week began in 1978 as a celebration of International Women's Day which is observed on March 8th of each year. In 1987, the National Women's History Project (NWHP) successfully petitioned congress to expand the celebration to the entire month of March. To honor women whose achievements are integral to the fabric of our history, the 2011 theme for National Women's History Month is "Our History is Our Strength".

In honor of Women's History Month, the Investment Bank chapter of All Bar None presents an art exhibit entitled "Our History is Our Strength." This month-long exhibit takes us on a journey through important events in women's history throughout the 20th Century including the Labor Movement, Women's Suffrage and the Civil Rights movement. The exhibit features paintings, photography and sculpture by twenty participating artists from various part of the country who were influenced by the strength of women that played a significant role in U.S. History. A Labor Movement installation by Harriet Bart entitled "Garment Registry" is also included.

"Our History is Our Strength" shares its purpose with (NWHP) which is to work diligently to write women back into American history. Words from the well-known organization sum up the exhibitions intentions, "The stories of women's achievements are integral to the fabric of our history. Learning about women's tenacity, courage, and creativity throughout the centuries is a tremendous source of strength. Until relatively recently, this sphere of women's history was overlooked and undervalued. Women's achievements were often distorted, disdained, and denied. But, knowing women’s stories provides essential role models for everyone. And role models are genuinely needed to face the extraordinary changes and unrelenting challenges of the 21st century."
