Born in Chicago, Illinois Lilia enlisted in the Army in 1975 at the end of the Vietnam War. Her basic Training began at Fort Jackson, S.C., in the last all female basic training company. Lilia’s first tour of duty took her to Mannheim, Germany assigned to the 77th MP Detachment first as the assistant to Stockade Commander then in charge of prisoner shipments to the U.S. After an extension and re-enlistment Lilia returned to the U.S. and was assigned typist duties for the Malpractice Division of U.S. Army Recruiting Command HQ. where her duties included dictating tapes and secret transcripts. Lilia is disabled due to her duties in Europe. She a mother and grandmother and very active in her church and with Veterans support groups and the Vet Art Project in Chicago.
