Mary McLoed Bethune
(1875-1955)

• Born near Mayesville, South Carolina
• Educated at the Scotia Seminary for Negro Girls (now called Barber-Scotia College) in North Carolina
• Lifelong career as an educator and trainer of teachers
• Founded the National Council of Negro Women
