Vinita Jadhav
Vinita
was born in Wai, India, a small town by the foothills of the Sahyadri
mountains. As a child, she was intrigued by the dynamic scenery
and beautiful mountains of Wai and was always eager to sketch. She
completed her M.A. in Wai and continued painting throughout college,
doing solo and group exhibitions and winning several awards. Her
first major recognition as an artist came in the final year of her
B.A. when she won the ‘Best Artist’ award in an intra-university
competition. Since then, for the past thirty years she has done
many shows all over the world in cities like New York, Boston, Jubail,
Baghdad, Pune, Bombay and Wai. She has been featured in several
art magazines in India and is also a writer.
The defining characteristic of Vinita’s art is the bright
colors she uses to striking effect – especially red, yellow
and blue - which form such an important part of Indian traditions.
She has explored diverse themes and is comfortable with a variety
of media. Her paintings are embellished with traditional objects
and ornaments, which symbolize the strong influence of Indian culture
in her art. Themes that she has explored in the past include Working
Women, Rural India, Landscapes, Portraits, Historical objects and
Indian mythology. More recently, she has shifted her focus to spiritual
painting. She spends a significant amount of time reading ancient
Indian mythology, manuscript, scriptures such as the Vedas and Bhagavad-Gita
which shows in her art.
Vinita resides in Pune, India and owns and manages her own gallery.
She eagerly supports upcoming artists and is active in art organizations
in India.
