Picture That

Tony Yin Tak Chu

Tony came to Canada from Hong Kong in 1996. Since graduating from the Visual Arts program at ECIAD in 2006, his work has revolved around his cultural identity as a Chinese immigrant. While primarily a painter, various processes are employed including digitized images. In fact, Tony is interested in using different media to create a piece of work involving sound, images and audiences. According to him, without the viewers’ responses, work is boring. In January 2011, Tony made his first installation art at a public space in Richmond’s Lansdowne Shopping Centre. Later the same year, he had his first solo exhibition at a commercial gallery, Hunter Bisset Gallery, and Tony participated and created a Container Art for the PNE, both in Vancouver.

In 2012, apart from the "Terracotta Warriors", a street art project by the British Columbia Lions Society for Children with Disabilities, and a shipping container art, "Materialization", for Richmond International Films and Media Arts Festival, Tony participated in the "Drawing: Expanded Medium", a group show at Evergreen Art Gallery in the summer.
