Sandra P. Smith
Artist Sandra P. Smith was born on July 14, 1957, in Philadelphia, PA. Ms. Smith developed an interest in art before she could write her name. She remembers getting in trouble at the age of three for drawing on her mother’s crisp white table doilies. Her father then realized that she had the potential of becoming an artist.
Upon the separation of her parents Sandra moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey where she continued elementary school. In adolescence her guidance counselor informed her mother that Ms Smith had a vivid imagination. She suggested that her art interest be nurtured. Growing-up Sandra remembers herself always being a daydreamer, visualizing colors, shapes and forms.
After being married at a young age and raising two beautiful daughters, Sandra continued to pursue her art interest. At that time, she used whatever material that was available. Everything from brown paper bags to melted plastic and found objects has always been incorporated into Ms Smith’s creations.
Sandra P. Smith’s work has been exhibited in numerous groups and one woman shows in the New Jersey area. As of the summer of 2006 she had her first exhibit in New York City, and a second show will open there in December of this year.
Ms Smith feels that her art is not what she does, but who she is. As a self taught artist she believes that this is her way to share her most intimate thoughts and feelings with others. She’s telling those who view her work a story of her journey in this life. Her dreams, desires and emotions are all interwoven into her art. Her work is inspired by the Creator, the greatest artist ever known.
