Ralph Hayashida

After more than 40 years in the publishing industry, Ralph Hayashida retired from his position as editor-in-chief and vice president of a New York educational publishing company. His career had taken him from his first job in Chicago to publishing companies in San Francisco, Columbus, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City.

A variety of roles throughout the years presented him with opportunities to use his creative talents in the design and development of books for students. Although his career allowed him little time to devote to his own art, he did occasional acrylic and oil paintings in his early adult life and attended night classes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for several years.

Now that he is retired, Ralph is able to spend time experimenting and working in pastels and watercolors. His body of work does not exhibit a single theme or style but rather is eclectic in nature. A number of his works are representational, but he also has impressionistic, abstract, and graphic works.

Ralph first exhibited his work in Stamford Art Association’s 2008 Emerging Artists show and has since won awards in several juried shows: a first and a third place award and two honorable mentions from the Art Society of Old Greenwich and a second place award from Stamford Art Association. He showed works in an April 2011 two-artist exhibit, entitled Two Views, at the Stamford Art Association. His recent work ‘Seascape’ was selected for the UBS Asian Exhibit and another recent work ‘Sunflower’ was selected for the Ferguson Library exhibit of botanical images.
