Phyllis Sinrich

In 2001 Phyllis Sinrich turned a passion for photography — which had been a hobby since childhood — into her “third life.” “Being recognized as an artist is gratifying and very exciting,” she says.

Since then her work has been exhibited in more than 50 juried shows, most notably the annual Faber Birren National Color Award Show, where she has won several sponsored awards over the years. In 2003, Façade, one of her abstract photographs, was a First Place winner in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Annual National Photo Competition.

Other venues have been the Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New Canaan, CT and the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack, NY. During the past few years she has increasingly exhibited at invitational and solo shows.

Phyllis is deeply influenced by the great expressionist artists. Her “photo-expressionism” style is spontaneous and interpretive, focused on creating powerful imagery through strong color and bold composition.

“For me, it’s the thrill of discovery,” she says. “The ‘wow’ of coming upon bits of paint and paper transformed into dazzling street-art   . . . an awesome reflection . . . an image that resonates emotionally. Find it. Shoot it. Capture it forever.”
