Picture That

Nicole Moné

For Nicole Moné, painting has always been a way to understand people and their stories. Her paintings usually start with both an image and an idea. The image shows a particular person, their human form in all of its beauty, shape and color. The idea is the thing about that individual that makes them unique. Expressing that is both the challenge and inspiration of art. When Nicole paints, she tries to capture not only the likeness of the individual, but also to create those defining moments that reveal their character – a colorful glimpse into their hopes, their worries, their desires and dreams.

Nicole Moné was born in Southern California in 1971. She began drawing and painting at a very young age and art became her lifelong passion. Prior to committing herself full-time to her portraiture and painting career, she worked for many years in the art publishing industry. Her works hang in collections throughout the United States, Italy and United Arab Emirates.

Through both formal training and self-study, she has explored several artistic styles; concentrating on realism. Seeking effective teaching methods for the realist style to which she is drawn, Nicole studied with portrait artist Marvin Mattelson through the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She spent a summer studying portraiture at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy and has studied with many prestigious artists including world-renowned artists Everett Raymond Kinstler and Aaron Shikler.

Nicole currently resides just outside of New York City in Westchester County, New York.
