Michele Foster-Lucas

Michele Foster-Lucas is a Folk Artist who speaks of people and culture through contemporary works.  Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Michele moved to southern New Jersey during her high school years.  She later attended Burlington County College – earning a degree in science.

Michele has always had the spirit of an artist.  A few years ago, at the urging of friends and family, Michele began exhibiting her expressive canvases.  Working mostly in pastels, Michele's subjects evoke a spiritual grace and yearning, reflective of her God-given talents.  Highly received, her works have been shown at the Woodbine Exhibition (in Philadelphia, PA), the Galleria (Manayunk, PA), Galerie 500 (Washington, DC).  She was also a featured artist at the Essence Of African Fashion Show and the highly prestigious, October Gallery (both located in Philadelphia, PA).

As Michele's artistic perspective expanded, she explored new mediums and modes of expression. Featured are four series of her works:  "Remember When Series 1 and II", "The Diva", and Other Creations.",

Mrs. Foster-Lucas has produced one photo-lithographs titled "One Love" (released nationally as an unlimited edition in 1992) and one giclee titled "Carnival", which was released in Limited Edition, this year.

"Carnival" (from Other Creations series) represents a powerful, colorful Leap into a new dimension of creativity.  Michel combines the techniques of acrylic paint with soft charcoal pastels, resulting in an image that conveys the frenzy, vibrancy and sensuality contained in the spirit of a Carnival.

Having a universal appeal, Michele's patrons range from the contemporary artist, Paul Goodnight, to Hershy Hawkins (former Philadelphia 76'er). Her works are for all persons, from all walks of life, as evidenced by a near 'sell-out' of all exhibits at Galerie 500.  Versatile, Michele creates pieces ranging from modest to complex and on a request basis, creates portraits from photographs.

As a new folk artist, on the scene for only 10 years, her artistry has grown more bold, of greater variety and with breathtaking emotional complexity.  For home or office, her works are affordable but of a sophistication that speaks of museum quality.
