Linda Pease
As
an older woman, and accomplished artist Linda has taken her experiences
from being a daughter, wife and mother to her travels around the
world and set them to the music of paint and paper. She lives with
the philosophy that “age is a matter of the mind and if you
don’t mind it doesn’t matter!” Look at Grandma
Moses! As a self-made artist Linda has had a love of art as long
as she can remember. It has always been a part of her life. “I
am passionate about my art, and I try to encourage women of all
ages to use their creativity. After moving to Connecticut, Linda
earned her Master's degree in Gerontology in 2000 from the University
of Connecticut, as an undergraduate, she was able to combine her
artistic talents with her academic work to develop an art therapy
program at a local nursing home. The development of this project
led to her receiving the Spirer/Dueker award, which is given to
a UCONN student who has made outstanding contributions to public
service. She was also named as state and national continuing educational
student in 1995 for her work in art therapy. Four years ago Linda
retired from social work to pursue her art on a full time basis.
As you view Linda's work, you will share in her vision for the
use of vibrant colors and textures which truly make this a magical
world all her own. "Painting just comes naturally; it's just
what I love to do. I just grab my sketchbook and paints and away
I go. I try to capture the world just as I see it, at that moment.
Now that I am retired I have the opportunity to travel and create.
I put this on hold for many years while being a mother and working.
I journal all my travels by carrying a small artist's watercolor
kit and pad. The desire to travel came from growing up as a Canadian
“Army Brat”, and living all over the US and Canada.
As far as my artistic style I enjoy many forms of art, it is difficult
to define one category which best describes my work. I think the
best choice would be an eclectic style where I have tried to choose
the best elements from representational and abstract art and have
created my own style of using color and composition. I like to work
in watercolor and acrylics because they dry fast and I can finish
a painting in a relatively short period of time. I usually do small
sketches first in my sketchbook. This book goes everywhere with
me, and whenever I see something or get an idea I jot it down. I
then use these to make larger pieces later.”
