Karen Thames

Artist Karene A. Thames has been a resident of Stamford, CT for the past 25 years since moving from Jamaica, W.I. with her family.

A graduate of the Connecticut Institute of Art, where she studied Fine and Commercial Art, she has enjoyed and practiced her craft for more than 20 years.

Her artwork has evolved over time and most recently depicts scenes of empowerment through the use of acrylics and mixed medias on canvas.

Many of her images are bold and strong with an abstract quality to them. They are reminiscent of stain glass, mosaics and leather quilt tapestries with an aboriginal influence. In addition, her work strives to show the “goddess” all women possess within, focusing on our inner beauty and the innate qualities which make us the wonders that we are.

Currently, Beloved is an art teacher in lower Fairfield County, and was formerly a manager at an art gallery.

In addition, she recently founded an artwork company, by the name of Beloved Enterprises, as an outlet for her artwork. She was honored to be one of the featured artists in the February 2004 exhibition presented by Picture That, LLC, in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day & African American History Month.

Her most prized works of art are her three children, who continue to inspire her to pursue her creative side more fully.
