Jahmane

Jahmane is a native of Norwalk, CT. whose career as an artist began early in the form of Graffiti, otherwise known as Urban Art, and has evolved into mural projects, works on canvas, graphic and fashion design. As a founder of both Kultjah Dezigns; an independent clothing label, and Lexicon Creative Group; a multi-media urban design firm, Jahmane has been able to create a niche in the world of urban fashion, graphic design and fine art.

At an early age, Jahmane became fascinated with a newly developing art form known as graffiti, which was quickly leaving it's mark on the world from it's creative hotbed, New York City. Frequent trips to New York exposed the sprouting artist to what would become a driving force behind his creative expression. Encouragement from family, friends and fellow artistic peers supplied the atmosphere for this upcoming artist to explore his talents.

Throughout grade school and junior high school, Jahmane received numerous art awards and scholarships, which boosted his desire to continue his artistic journey. While still in high school, Jahmane, along with four other artists, began a small t-shirt company, later to be known as Kultjah Dezigns. Kultjah was used to introduce his new concepts and designs to a growing urban market. The company soon became a well known name in Connecticut, as well as Virginia, D.C., Philadelphia and Florida, and after displaying at Magic; an international fashion trade show, business flourished across the states, and featured in the Source, Stress and Vibe Magazine.

During his second year at Norfolk State University, Jahmane decided to pursue his designing career full-time. After a few years producing the Kultjah product line, the opportunity to embark into a retail outlet / concept store was presented, and in 1997, Jahmane and his comrades established the first Kultjah Outpost concept store in Norwalk, CT. A year later, growing success made way for another store to be established in Atlanta, GA. As his love for fashion and design grew, so did his passion for the urban art which first sparked Jahmane's creativity.

With several years of experience in urban fashion and marketing, and various commission projects including Murals for Artspace, a development for artist work/live studios in Bridgeport, CT. and The Art Under the Bridge Project, a Connecticut state park dedicated to art which Jahmane and three other artists' work have been installed (suspended) beneath an I-95 overpass, Jahmane feels as if he has just begun his creative voyage. As co-founder of Lexicon Gallery, one of Connecticut’s first Urban Art galleries, and Lexicon Creative Group, Jahmane is taking his artistic vision into the new millennium through mural projects, gallery works, multi-media production and the overall advancement of creative expression.
