Henri Eyma
Henri Eyma chronicles Haitian life in a way most foreigners aren't aware of – it is untarnished by outside perception or pretentious illuminations. It conveys an image of a people forged from a pride that began with a struggle for independence and is now locked in a mêlée for recognition that will dispel many myths and untruths.
Painting is not just Henri's life – it is his history expressed in oils and acrylics. His work is personal and sensitive with evidence of his toil hidden just below the paint. Henri remain still and reserved although much of his beliefs are captured in the vibrant pallet he uses to transform canvas and wood into a window of hope and memories of a time not forgotten.
Henri Eyma works with a purpose and conviction – not dissuaded by the demands of the social etiquette of conformance that engages many young artists to please the masses. There's a dignity that stands out in each and every work of his hands, a respect for the subject, the paints and the message presented. Henri gives life to his art allowing it to breathe on its own. Yet, he is inextricably linked to them all. The umbilical cord that binds Henri with his work and too the collector is passion – a passion for the expression of a moment as seen through the eyes of the artist.
