Picture That

Darrell Jones

Bold lines, sketch marks, bright colors, and interesting compositions are the essentials of my work. I'm inspired by storyboard type compositions, and sketch marks which come from animation. Vibrant colors and abstract features are the other inspirational tools that come from my traditional art side. My art contains abstract sketch marks and gestures in different types of scenes. I fuse the sketches and scenes together in the composition with colors that really draw you into the piece. Finally, I use dry paint collected from my paint pallet and recycle it into current pieces to give the painting texture.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee from a family of eight, I started doing art at an early age. Motivated by my mom to take it seriously, I attended college after high school. I enrolled in Jr College in Memphis and from there to Jackson, Mississippi, where I studied design and took my first painting class. I loved painting from day one and was influenced by the various art styles. During my senior year at Jackson State University, I became interested in animation. After graduating, I moved to L.A. where I studied animation for a couple of years and began to work between the two mediums. I enjoyed both the Mississippi and California experience and reflect that in my work.
