Copie Rodriguez

Born of Dominican parents in Washington Heights, New York City, Copie Rodriguez started creating art at an early age. He was influenced by Mad Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and trips to the Metropolitan Museum, especially enjoying Renaissance paintings by Rembrandt and El Greco.  In addition, he also greatly admires works by artists Gregory Gillespie, Sue Coe, and Diego Rivera.

Copie earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Pratt Institute, studying under Barron Storey, among others. "The source for the majority of my concepts originates by simply walking around in the streets and observing.  I use photography and sketching for reference, and then document it on canvas/wood panel, with my own perspective."

Copie works primarily in mixed media, which includes: acrylic, spray paint, colored pencil, oils, ink, sandpaper and collage.  He is currently combining digital drawings with traditional mediums, and experimenting with different surfaces.
