Andrea Alvin

Born and raised in California. Alvin studied and earned a BFA from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, now of Pasadena.  Moved to NY in 2003. Her painting career started in 1977 and she has exhibited in galleries all over California and the US.

"The objects portrayed in my paintings whether old or new, eventually become a part of our culture. By painting them, I preserve a “moment in time” and re-create them as icons. Many of my paintings, at close viewing, are a study in abstraction. The brushstrokes are loose, and yet the images resolve photographically as one steps back. The lighting and vibrant color give the subjects a confectionary quality.  

Beyond simple representation, I try to capture the childlike feeling of delving into another world where we are safe, solitary adventurers gazing up at the next great Wonder - staged and lit and ready for it’s close up."
