Picture That

Aleathia Brown

My artwork is a visual language expressing my power, strength, and vulnerabilities!

Art I make because it calls me like a craving...I see beauty in visuals everywhere. I tell story with my art to open a dialogue with my viewing audience as well as to cleanse personal experiences. When I tell my story it is infectious because someone is always inspired to confess their experiences with me. I find that when I layer textures or mix mediums I am a scientist. Experimenting with mediums and visual images provokes reactions causing people to open up a dialogue. This is important to me. It bridges the gap of human endurance and fosters warmth and empathy. In my visual journey texture, color and bold shape are as necessary as the elements to nature. Alluring, meditative, spirit-full and movement are just a few ways to describe the feeling conveyed in the body of my artwork. Music, dance and poetry not only motivate me to create, each one uplifts and metamorphosis’s my soul. I translate these emotions into visual experiences. I use both found objects as well as bought materials. To use what is already in existence along with what is raw (unused) is a challenge as well as a way to recycle. Art is what heals pain and reveals triumph. Sharing my gift with the world is my contribution to humanity!
